We were on a two-week vacation in Sri Lanka with our family in October 2018.

We stayed at Coral Sands Hotel in Hikkaduwa. The location of the hotel is perfect for a beach holiday, right on the seashore and a stone\'s throw away from the hotel you could swim with, for example, sea turtles. In addition, there is a coral reef on the beach where it was nice to snorkel.

We already booked a trip from Finland for three nights and four days from the local tour operator Haya Lanka. Ishu, the owner of Haya Lanka, Tailored us the tour we wanted and was very patient and kind.

The driver Nusmy came to pick us up from the hotel as agreed and everything worked

as previously agreed. Our places to stay on the trip were Udawalawe-

Ella-Kandy. We couldn\'t be happier, we saw and experienced so much and the country is incredibly beautiful!

I can confirm the previous reports about the service of travel agency Haya Lanka. We did a one-week trip by them in February 2018. A reliable driver (Mr. Farsan) with a new air-conditioned car managed the program from start to finish excellently. We visited eg: Sigyria, Nuwara Elya, safaris (with 100 elephants), Moon Plain nature reserve, Kandy, Ella. As in the country, the attractions include sales presentations of products in high-quality stores (Sri Lankan gemstones, wooden furniture and decorative items, batik textiles, tea plantations, etc.) But the country\'s wonderfully beautiful nature was the best part of the inland trip. Various cultural sites such as the sacred millennial sites of Buddhism were also part of the program. Safety and care for us as customers was top notch. The people in the country were generally extremely friendly and helpful.

You can\'t experience as much traveling independently in a week as on the Haya Lanka excursion, which we strongly recommend, Thank you Mr. Ishu and Mr. Farsan for all you made fot us! Hope to see you next time!

I recommend the Hay lanka travel agency (see website)) whose owner is a dynamic young man, Ishu. Safwan was the driver of the wonderful minivan. Both speak good English. Lazy and comfortable people were picked up from the airport, transported to their desired destinations and dropped off at a quality hotel for the evening. The small island has everything: wonderful temples and rock palaces, tea plantations and spice gardens, and e.g. colonial style buildings. You can spot elephants and crocodiles in national parks, dolphins and whales on a sea excursion, lizards and snakes on a rainforest excursion. It was wonderful to lie down in the Indian Ocean and relax with a song.

My spouse and I were on a trip to Negombo, Sri Lanka in November 2023. We read tips for our trip here in advance and I thought I would share experiences from our trip here as well, if anyone can find them helpful. Our prior information about the destination was based on what we had read about them. We wanted to travel to a place where it is guaranteed to be warm, but in addition to the beach, there are also other things to see. both wishes came true :)

We were traveling for one week. Our hotel was Jetwing Blue. We were really satisfied with the hotel. The service was friendly, the room was clean and the hotel environment was pleasant. The hotel was on the beach and the long white sandy beach was perhaps the nicest we have been to so far. It was hot under the sun, but palm trees grew closer to the hotel and there were sunbeds in their shade. The sea water was warm. However, the beach deepened quickly and the waves were quite strong, so the beach would not have been suitable for small children.

On the street, the reality was a little different. As far as I understand, tourism has not yet returned to the pre-pandemic level and there were many empty business premises. However, the tursim season starts in December, so we were on our way a little earlier. At least in November of this year, the rainy season wasn\'t over yet, so every evening it started to rain after dusk. Nevertheless, the evening was warm, but an umbrella was really necessary.

A tourist not used to Sri Lanka was amazed on the street when someone was offering a ride or a trip somewhere all the time. When we tried to ask about the sights we were interested in, we got the impression that jees jees might not contain what we want. Because of this, we then contacted Ishu from Haya Lanka on the spot, about whom we had read recommendations here. You could freely express your wishes to him, after which he honestly brought up what it is possible to see during the one-day excursions.

We bought two one-day trips from him, because we wanted to return to the hotel at night. He would very much have liked to organize overnight trips as well, but we wanted to return to the hotel in the evening. The first excursion went to Sigiriya, i.e. lion rock. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is therefore a 100m high rock rising in the middle of the plain, on top of which is the old ruin of the king\'s palace. The climb was worth every drop of sweat. I warmly recommend going there. During the same day, we also visited the Danbulla cave temples (this is also a UNESCO site) and took part in a safari where we saw elephants.

The second day trip went to Hikkaduwa, where we went snorkeling. To our great disappointment, such snorkeling trips were not organized in November, so that we would have gone by boat to the sea and snorkeled there. However, Ishu takes us to the beach, where you could snorkel and explore the closer corals and admire the colorful fish. The waves were quite strong on that beach as well, so it may be that snorkeling further out at sea would not have been safe at this time of year. Again, the day included other programs and we got to know e.g. for the protection of sea turtles. The tours were expensive, but we were satisfied with their content and the service of Ishu and the drivers. The trips included meals for the day and small snacks along the way. It was especially lovely to get hold of a King Coconut and drink its contents :)

If I ever travel to Sri Lanka again, next time I will be better prepared for the poverty that you see everywhere. Unfortunately, we also try to get a high price for products and services from the tourists who visit us. So be prepared to haggle and get ready for tipping almost everywhere. The only thing where there is a clear rule is 10% in a restaurant. However, the country is beautiful and there is a lot of beautiful nature. During the week, we managed to see a little of it.

Teimme 5-henkisen perheemme (kolme aikuista lasta) kanssa hienon kiertomatkan 26.1.-8.2.2019. Olin yhteydessä edellisenä syksynä Haya Lankan omistajaan Ishu Isthrahiin. Yhteys hoitui Whatsapin avulla helposti ja nopeasti. Kerroin aikataulun ja toiveemme matkan pituudesta ja kohteiden määrästä. Hän laati ehdotuksen, jota korjailin pariin kertaan. Kun tämä oli lyöty lukkoon, varasin lennot Hki-SL-Hki. Lentoreitti oli lopulta Hki-Doha-Colombo-Doha-Hki.

Reittimme oli Colombo-Kandy-Sigiriya-Nuwara Eliya-Ella, ja sieltä Negomboon, jossa olimme rannalla vajaan viikon. Matkaa teimme tila-autolla, siis vain me. Kuskina oli mainio Nusrath, todella avulias ja mukava. Hotellit olivat hienot, ja meille oli etukäteen varattu paljon nähtävyyksiä, joten jonotuksia ei ollut. Mieleenpainuvin oli ehkä elefanttisafari, jonka aikana näimme kymmeniä eläimiä, pääosin aivan läheltä.

Matka oli kompakti kokonaisuus. Osin ajomatkat olivat pitkiä, mutta taukojen takia eivät raskaita. Matka oli todella elämys ja hintansa arvoinen.

Meillä oli aiempaa kokemusta täysin valmiista kiertomatkoista, mm Kuuban suuresta kiertomatkasta. Nyt kun aikataulu oli tiukka nuorison lomien takia, meitä miellytti erityisesti se, että koko paketti tehtiin täysin meidän toiveidemme mukaan. Toki Ishu vinkkasi reitin varrelta ne parhaat nähtävyydet, jotka sitten otettiin mukaan. Nyt pohdituttaa, vieläkö uudestaan, kun niin paljon jäi näkemättä!? Ja ilman muuta yhteys Haya Lankaan, jos näin tapahtuu.

Muutama vuosi sitten teimme lomamatkan Sri-Lankalle. Tarkoituksena oli tutustua omatoimisesti maan nähtävyyksiin, mutta perillä totesimme että tarvitaan paikallinen opas kertomaan missä paikoissa ennättää käydä yhden lomaviikon (5 pv) aikana.
